Haunted History of The Brookdale Lodge
Deep in the Santa Cruz Mountains, amongst the soaring Redwood trees, the pillaring pines and the endless flow of creek waters, lays the formally known “World Famous Brookdale Lodge”.
Often compared to the chilling novels by Stephen King, The Shinning, Rose Red, and 1408, this historic piece of Santa Cruz history, once catered to the rich and famous - such legends as James Dean, Hedy Lamar, Cordell Tull, Rita Hayworth, Joan Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, Howard Hughes, Henry Ford, President Herbert Hoover, Al Capone and more, are all known to have once dined within its illustrious walls.
However, all that glitters is not gold…
Famed for having a magical brook that flows through its hull, surrounded by lime stone and river rock the enchanting creek is believed to act as the beating heart of the Brookdale Lodge. Conducting an invisible life force all its own, a portal if you will, that resonates’ between the living and the dead.
For decades the formerly famed Brookdale Lodge had once seemingly summoned persons from all around the world to dance, dine and slumber within. However after changing hands of ownership several times and suffering several destructive fires, the lodge reportedly began taking on a life of its own. Employees and guests alike began noticing the juke box turn on by itself, light fixtures flickering, glass ware flying off the tables and the sounds of giggling, many of whom believe to be the laughter of a little girl.
Legend claims the spirit of a 10 year old girl, by the name of Sarah - thought to be a relation of Brookdale Lodge founder himself - Judge James Harvey Logan Succumbed to fatal injuries after falling on the rocks in Clear Creek and nearly drowning. Her playful child like apparition, has been seen wandering the lobby, bar and Brook room. Often trying to attain the attention of an unsuspecting guest. or unwary employee.
Others have claimed to encounter the spirit of a grumpy old man wearing a loud plaid polyester suit, a fedora and smoking a smoldering cigar. He is described to frequent the bar, typically grumbling to himself and can never seem to find the exit. And still more witnesses have testified to have seen the spirits of dozens or more - differently related phantoms throughout the lodge.
The Brookdale Lodge has been researched and visited by many paranormal investigators, psychics and even featured on television shows such as Ghost Adventures, Sightings and Unexplained Mysteries.
